Richard Eagle Memorial Award The Vision Scientists Memorial Fund was established by the AVA to support junior researchers (postgraduates studying for a higher degree or postdoctoral junior scientists [up to 5 years after getting a PhD] based in the UK). There are now three awards from this fund: the Geoffrey J. Burton Memorial Travel Award which started in 1986, the Richard Eagle Memorial Award which started in 2003, and the Mark Bradshaw Memorial Award which started in 2006. Donations to the fund can be directed to the AVA secretariat and cheques etc. should be made payable to "The Vision Scientists Memorial Fund". The maximum award to any one individual is 750 UK pounds. The Richard Eagle Memorial award is an open award to help people with their research. Applicants should detail on the application form how they would like to spend the award. Over recent years, the AVA has funded collaborative research visits and the purchase of equipment and software needed for research. Applications for the support of publication costs, payments for research subjects or manpower, travel and other creative research pursuits will also be seriously considered if a strong case for support can be made. A number of awards will be made once every two years (to alternate with the Mark Bradshaw Award). The closing date for the next award will be September 30th 2009. The recipient(s) of the award will be required to write a report of how they spent their award for publication on the AVA website. Applicants must:
