The AVA - David Marr Medal 2010 and 2011 Awards The AVA invites nominations every 2 years for the David Marr medal, recognizing the achievements of an outstanding vision scientist in the early part of his or her research career. The award is named in memory of one of Britain's most distinguished vision researchers. In this round, the AVA committee felt that two of the nominations were of such quality that we should exceptionally make two awards - one for 2010 and one for 2011. Inviting nominations every two years makes that possible. The AVA is therefore pleased to anounce that: • the Marr award for 2010, for his work on the psychophysics and neuroimaging of 3-D motion and 3-D shape will go to Dr Andrew Welchman at the University of Birmingham. • and the Marr award for 2011, for her extensive work on colour vision - from photoreceptors to colour constancy - will go to Dr Hannah Smithson at the University of Durham. The award winners will be invited to receive their awards and to give talks on their work at later AVA meetings, in December 2010, and Easter or Christmas 2011 respectively. Our congratulations go to Andrew and to Hannah as winners of the AVA Marr awards 2010 and 2011
